Bar Ends: Drilling + Tapping?

I put some bar end mirrors on the ZX-10R over the summer (similar to the photo) and really like them. I can now see something other than my shoulder. Only problem I have is the “universal” rubber mount that’s supposed to expand inside the clipon doesn’t really work. It’s way too small to jam solidly into the clipon. Instead, I rigged them up to my stock bar ends, which worked for a while, but they are always moving around and it’s only a matter of time before I lose one. I would like something more solid and permanent.

I am currently throwing around the idea of drilling out my stock bar ends, tapping them, and bolting the mirror onto that, essentially turning them into adapters. Haven’t done anything like this since high school, but I noticed there is a tap + die set in Aldi this weekend, so might be a good time to have a go of it. https://www.aldi.ie/p/093869111217400

Questions:

1) What do you reckon the bar ends are made of, and what kind of time will I have drilling through it? My guess based on weight would be lead, steel, or some combination of the two.

2) Is €20 for this Aldi tap + die set a reasonable choice? It’s not the kind of thing I’ll use often. I’ve been thinking about getting a starter set for a while, but honestly haven’t had a use until now. Just thought I’d ask if there is some obvious reason it wouldn’t work that I’m not realising.
